A series of studies of LED lighting found on household appliances
With this series, I wanted to take something small and generally invisible and then make it feel large and nebulous.
I photographed the diodes very close-up and only used in-camera effects derived from focus and shutter-speed settings to distort them so as to remove them from their original environment.
The results had a very pleasing science-fiction feel and reminded me of the usage of lighting to create an unnerving, otherworldly atmosphere in Spielberg’s wonderful movie Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind (1977).
